Author Thomas Hardy was responsible for the exhumations of thousands of Londoners to make way for the building of the King's Cross train station. Those exhumed were reburied in a mass grave and their tombstones placed in concentric rings around a newly planted tree, which was dubbed the Thomas Hardy Tree.
