Butterfly Photography Presentation
Magic wings has been described as a "fairyland". If you've never been there, it's a VERY remarkable place - over 8,000 square feet of wonder. There are of course butterflies (over 4,000), but there's lots more, including exotic insects, frogs, quail, fish, tortoises, exotic reptiles (behind glass!), many tropical plants and a cute parrot.
The Zoom session will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd at 7pm and is about 90 minutes long. The presentation will explain the best ways to shoot butterflies. It will cover the following topics:
  • The Magic Wings facility
  • Know your subject!
  • Photography Gear
  • Flash
  • Exposure
  • Depth of Field Issues
  • Focus
  • Composition
  • Get Creative
  • Photographing Flora
A Zoom link will be sent out a few days before the 23rd.

In Motion Photography - Betsy Wilson
The Simsbury Camera Club is presenting Betsy Wilson. She will explore the world of motion photography through her unique perspective.  A combination of traditional techniques of controlling shutter speed with some non-traditional concepts using camera motion and light-painting, Betsy's images will inform and inspire us to try new ideas. Using your camera to capture motion in ways beyond what we see with our eyes results in endless creative possibilities.

Making Competitive Nature Images - Rick Cloran
In this program Rick will explore the key aspects of a successful competitive nature image and what separates them from an otherwise good nature image.  Each of the key aspects is covered in short, easily remembered points.  These points are then reinforced with multiple examples using images that have and have not been successful at local, interclub and international exhibition levels.

Luminar Neo Software - Hazel Meredith
Luminar AI was the first image editor fully powered by artificial intelligence. Luminar Neo takes it to a whole new realm! It will help you process your images faster and save time on the boring, routine part of editing, giving you more time to express your own creative vision. This program is very easy to learn and it assists you with Presets by analyzing the content of your photo and suggesting the perfect preset style for your image. You can then using the editing suite to fine tune your image or even replace a boring sky (including water reflections).

SIMSBURY CAMERA CLUB OUTING: Civil War Battle Reenactment Photography Outing
SIMSBURY CAMERA CLUB OUTING:   The Reenactment runs from 9:30am to 4:30pm but you do not have to stay for the whole day (that would be a long day of photography).  I figure we can meet up around 9:45am at the entrance to the Oriental Garden by parking lot A.  Most of the action will be happening in the big field to the left as you enter the park.  The rain date for this outing is Sunday 17th with the hours of the Reenactment being 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.  The entrance fee for Wickham Park is $10 per car.  The fee also covers the Reenactment.  Since the entrance fee is per car, maybe consider carpooling with fellow club members if you wish. Tripods will be allowed.
TWO RULES:  DO NOT go into the flower beds   !Second:  DO NOT take any pictures of children who are at the park and its playgrounds!!

Library Lecture Series - Still Life Photography by Betsy Wilson
The Simsbury Camera Club is presenting Betsy Wilson as she explores the world of still life photography through her unique perspective.  A combination of traditional still life subjects,  fascinating nature still subjects, and a few whimsical and unusual creations, Betsy’s still life images provide studies in composition and lighting.
Unlike landscape or street photography, the photographer is in complete control of subject matter, composition, shape, color, depth of field, lighting and presentation.  The true skill lies in the ability to take something mundane and everyday out of its normal habitat and transform it into something of beauty by using our skills as photographers.

Library Lecture Series - ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY : A Personal Journey by Lewis Katz
What is abstract photography? Just an out of focus image - hardly! Abstract photography can take on so many different forms its hard to pin down an exact definition. That is what makes it so fascinating. In this presentation Lewis Katz will cover and discuss the many forms of abstract photography and the techniques used to create them. Simplicity, composition, angle of view, lighting, harmony and most importantly mystery. Lewis will discuss how to create effective abstract images using everyday objects, using design elements, using macro lenses, shooting through objects, capturing motion, playing with lighting and how to create a home studio to create and capture abstract images.Lewis Katz is an award-winning member of the Baltimore Camera Club. Teaching photography is another essential component of his photography life as Lewis loves sharing his passion. Lewis currently teaches for the Johns Hopkins Odyssey program, the Capital Photography Center of DC and for private students as well.
