Annie Leibovitz photography class
https://www.masterclass.com/classes/annie-leibovitz-teaches-photography
Annie Leibovitz was the first woman to be named chief photographer at Rolling Stone and the last person to take a portrait of John Lennon. In her first online photography class, Annie shows us that what makes a picture stunning isn't the gear or technology - it's the story. Annie teaches you her philosophy: how to develop concepts, work with subjects, shoot with natural light, and bring images to life in post-production. See the world through her eyes.

Presentation - Creativity with Textures & Composites by Hazel Meredith
https://www.meredithimages.com/
See how you can take a "ho hum" image and make it into your own "work of art". Learn how to work with textures and compositing several images to create your own artistic vision. I will show you how to create your own textures - both from photos and with brushes in Photoshop (or Elements) - then combine them with photos to create looks from subtle to dramatic. You will learn how to do simple composites like changing a sky, as well as more complex creations with several images.

Winter Walks at the Old Sturbridge Village
https://www.osv.org/event/winter-walks-at-the-village/
Come enjoy a peaceful walk around our early 19th-century village. While on your walk stop by our numerous households and see what kind of winter activities kept a family busy. Our tradeshops will be active as well, from needlework to working at the potter’s wheel, we will be working to keep our hand skills sharp. See the farmers hard at work getting ready for the next season, and of course, our farm animals always enjoy a visitor too. There will be daily horse-drawn wagon rides throughout the museum. Your experience will be outdoors so please dress accordingly.

Mark Bowie Workshop - Adirondack Winterscapes 2021
https://www.adkpi.org/copy-of-winterscapes
Winter in the Adirondacks is a magical time and the Lake Placid-Saranac Lake-Tupper Lake region has its own northern charm. There are dramatic snow-covered mountains and pristine forests. The numerous lakes, ponds and waterways become encrusted with intricate ice formations. Even small snowfalls create winter wonderlands. Snow quiets and simplifies the landscape, accentuating lines and form. Portraying it artistically in photographs requires special attention to composition, exposure and processing. Through both field lessons and indoor instructional sessions, Mark will explore the art of seeing winter's beauty and demonstrate techniques specific to creating compelling winter images. With the emphasis on "shooting & processing", we'll photograph a variety of locations, during the day and at night, and take time to process and share our images. Possible shooting locations include Whiteface Mountain and the McKenzie and Stephenson Ranges, Mt. Joe, Algonquin Mt, Mt Colden, Lower Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Lakes Flower and Colby, Second Pond, and other lakes and ponds in the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest and St Regis Wilderness. Come explore the special beauty of winter in the North Country!

The program begins Sunday, Jan 31st at 5:00 pm and ends Wednesday, February 3rd at noon.

Inside-Outing: "February", with Bert Sirkin
The theme for this Inside-Outing field trip is simply: "February". It's not a competition, but a "social" event, where members can get to "see" through a different set of eyes and hear each photographer's thoughts.

Pictures can be taken anytime between January 20, 2021 and February 20, 2021. If for some reason, you're unable to shoot new images, you can submit previously shot images. Images can be shot indoors or out; they can be un-edited, edited, creative - whatever you like. They can be shot with any kind of camera, including phones.

Your pictures can be based on Valentine's day or President day, or you can submit any images shot in February. If you need more ideas, let's not forget that February is also American Heart Month, An Affair to Remember Month, Black History Month, Canned Food Month, Creative Romance Month, Great American Pie Month, National Bird Feeding Month, National Cherry Month, National Children's Dental Health Month, National Grapefruit Month, National Weddings Month & Spunky Old Broads Month (no, I didn't make that one up!).

Since it's not a competition, you can always use the images you take for this social event in a future SCC competition.

Submit 3 or 4 images to me by February 24th, and we'll review them at a the scheduled Zoom meeting on Wednesday, March 3rd.

Presentation: Mark Bowie - Moonlit
https://www.markbowie.com/
6:30 - 8:30, lecture at 7

In targeting the Milky Way, most night photographers avoid photographing under a large moon. Yet there’s much more to discover under moonlight. Unbelievably beautiful... otherworldly... Moonlight on the landscape opens profound creative possibilities for night photographers. It casts fill light, illuminating details and colors of both man-made structures and natural subjects. It theatrically interacts with clouds, fog and water, offering artistic possibilities for shooting stills, time-lapse and video.

I'll discuss using apps such as PhotoPills to help position photographers to best take advantage of moonlit subjects. I'll cover innovative field and processing techniques, camera settings, and how to compose, focus, and determine exposure. I'll cover artistic possibilities presented under all phases, optical phenomena created by moonlight, photographing eclipses and long exposures of the moon, shooting and blending multiple exposures for detail in the moon and landscape, and shooting time interval and time-lapse sequences of the moon's journey across the night sky.

Ultimately, this multimedia presentation exposes viewers of all skill levels to the artistic possibilities of this little-covered facet of night photography - our nocturnal world lit by the light of the moon, with the ambience, mystery and a sense of wonder it brings.

Library Lecture Series - Luminosity Mask, Joe Reardon
https://www.joereardonphotography.com/
Joe Reardon passion for photography began while in his teens when his dad presented him with a 35mm camera that he had won at a local tavern poker game. From the moment he saw his first images he knew that photography would be his voice in the world. Joe pursued formal photography training as a military photographer in the US Navy and graduating from the New England School of Photography.
Joe is driven to capture the visual expression of what he perceive to be meaningful about the natural environment through photography. He create photographs of nature so that viewers might recall an earlier, more care-free period in life when they had more time to "stop and smell the roses" - and recognize the importance of saving time now, to invest in nature again.

The club has arranged an outing at Ripley's Waterfowl Conservancy in Litchfield on Saturday Dec 4 from 10 am to 2 pm. Rain date Sunday Dec. 5  You don't need to be a wildlife photographer to enjoy this location. A 70-200mm lens is more than adequate. I’ve also gotten some good shots with a 24-104 mm lens as well. This location provides great up close opportunities to photograph waterfowl that is not generally found in CT.
