http://jimchristensenphotography.com
Do you consider the time you spend in the digital darkroom creative time? Jim will tell you how to expand the images that you can imagine and create in the digital darkroom using a technique called compositing. It lets you mix your imagination with your digital captures to create images that communicate your vision more powerfully. He'll show you examples of several different kinds of compositing, teach you the best ways to make composite images using Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, and have some fun along the way.

Capturing birds in action
https://www.ctaudubon.org/2018/03/register-birds-action/
This program will focus on capturing birds in action, with tips on understanding natural patterns and wildlife behavior in order to anticipate action and be ready to capture it. We will cover the most effective cameras, lenses and other photo gear, the best exposure and ISO settings and understanding different autofocus systems and focusing techniques in order to consistently produce sharp, detailed images of fast moving subjects.

The location will be at Rocky Neck State Park where we hope to see recently returned Osprey diving for fish in the salt marsh, engaging in courtship behavior and building their nests. We also may find several different species of wading birds and waterfowl, engaging in courtship behavior, feeding and nest building, as well.

This program is best suited for intermediate or moderately advanced photographers with a basic understanding of photography, and who are interested specifically in wildlife photography. Bring your cameras, as we hope there will be plenty of action to photograph.

$20 for members, $25 for non-members. This is an intermediate level course. Space is limited, so register today.

Bob MacDonnell has been photographing birds, wildlife and natural history in Southeastern Connecticut and beyond for 25 years. He has worked as a photojournalist in Connecticut for nearly three decades and photographed many nature-related and environmental issue stories in Connecticut. Bob also has a collection of thousands of natural history stock photographs, and his images have been published in numerous newspapers, magazines and calendars including National Audubon Society publications.

Photo Excursion to Wadsworth Big Falls in Middlefield CT
Bill Payne and John Straub will be hosting a trip to Wadsworth Big Falls in Middlefield CT.  The goal of the trip will be to teach creative photo methodology at one of New England's highest volume undammed waterfalls.  Cameras will be set to  manual as we study depth of field, variable blurring of fast and slow moving water, exposure (neutral density filters optional), composition and best procedures for setting up your tripod and camera. This falls earns its relatively high rating simply because you do not expect to find such a commanding waterfall in the heart of Connecticut. The currents of this river are astonishing given its location. Come and join the fun.

Simsbury Triathlon
http://trysimsbury.com/
Simsbury's Triathlon is back this Sun. May 20th at 11:00am. It begins with a trail run, followed by road cycling and kayaking with a final strong run back to the finish line. Participants compete on their own or with friends on a team. Not participating yourself, but you'd like to see what it's all about? Simsbury Meadows is a great place to watch the start and the end of the race and the Bridge of Flowers is the best place to watch the kayak portion (there are no flower yet). Originally conceived of by town volunteers in an effort to encourage athletic tourism, persuading folks to "Try" Simsbury, the triathlon highlights Simsbury's wonderful outdoor assets, including numerous hiking trails, the wild and scenic Farmington River, and terrific bike paths and trails.

The race will start and finish at the Simsbury Performing Arts Center.

The Bicycle Cellar is sponsoring the bike section, which is a 2-loop ride (spectator friendly and approximately 12 miles) on Simsbury’s scenic country roads paralleling the Farmington River.

The paddle, sponsored by Collinsville Canoe & Kayak, will begin at its new launch site just under Simsbury’s Landmark Flower Bridge - a great place for spectators. A 2-mile paddle will take you up river first. After the turnaround, enjoy the down-river paddle back under the Flower Bridge to the take out point, after which you will finish with a strong run back to the Performing Arts Center Finish.

Most participants will finish the race in approximately 1.5 - 2.5 hours.

Parades will include a short narration on each vehicle and is certain to please history buffs, photographers and rail fans young and old.
