Panning/ICM (Special)

Maximum can submit 1 image

Portraying motion by combing a slow shutter speed and camera motion is at the core of this category.

Panning is a tricky technique to perfect, but well worth the effort. Track a moving subject (car, biker, runner, animal, bird etc.) using a relatively slow shutter speed, i.e. 1/40 to 1/80 sec., the goal being to capture the moving subject in focus while blurring the background to reflect the speed.

Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) – Using the camera like a paintbrush while the shutter is open can create some amazing images, (and, truth be told, a lot of lousy images as well). It’s worth exploring this technique on the internet so that you produce more of the former and fewer of the latter. You may surprise yourself.
